OUR VISION OF THE NATURE AND MISSION OF THE LOCAL CHURCH

We aim:

1. To be wholeheartedly committed to Christ as Saviour and Lord. (John 20:31, Romans 10:9).

2. To be baptised

i) in water and (Acts

ii)the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:5—6).

3. To read the Bible regularly, accepting it authority and acting on it by the power of the Holy Spirit so that the church may be made more true to the Bible under the Lordship of Christ. (2 Timothy 3:16—17)

4. To seek personally and to encourage others to seek the release of the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a definite experience, and daily filling with the Spirit, so that our eyes may be open fully to our riches in Christ and the vision God is revealing. (Acts 2:17, 38-39)

5. To seek personally and to encourage others to seek security in God (which is faith) not in our own understanding, efforts, other people, material things, circumstances or traditional patterns, (Proverbs 28:26 Jeremiah 17:5-89 1 Timothy 6:17)

6. To seek personally and to encourage others to seek that spiritual “brokenness” before God, so that our wills are submitted to His and His will is all that matters,, (Matthew 7:21-23). To aim at holiness of life based on the fruit of the Spirit, and to seek for inner healing as necessary, so that there are no barriers to spiritual progress (e.g. fear of commitment, other people, circumstances or the future), (Psalm 118:6-9, Matthew 6:25-34)

7. To join regularly in worship and to encourage the building of a worshipping community which will know regularly what it is to adore God, being “lost in wonder, love and praise” and to express this worship fully, (Psalm 100)

8. To learn to intercede for others and to listen often in prayer for specific guidance and developing vision for the future, (Romans 8:26—27), Ephesians 6:18, Isaiah 30:15, 18, 21)

9. To seek the church’s guidance to find our gifts and use them. To encourage the discovery of every member’s spiritual gifts and ministries so that all the gifts of the Spirit will operate in the church; that people will only be doing the things which the leaders. in the church have helped them recognise or confirmed that God has called them to and gifted them for. (Eph 4:11-16; 1 Corinthians 12)

This is not control but guidance and protection for a collective walk

10. To be deeply committed personally and to encourage others to be deeply committed to the church as a community, not each “doing his or her own thing” in the rebellious spirit of the age; but aiming to achieve a unity of heart and mind in which the church moves enthusiastically as one in obedience to God so that the world may believe. (Ephesians 6:21, John 17:21-23)

i)To accept the authority of the elders and other leaders, respecting them, obeying them in teaching and advice that the Bible clearly supports and in matters which affect the church. (1 Thessalonians 5:12—13, Hebrews 13:17)

ii) To be completely loyal to one another — keeping confidences, defending one another against negative criticism, not being judgmental or jumping to conclusions about each other. (Galatians 5:13—15, Colossians 3:12—15)

iii) To be open and honest with one another, inc1uding giving and receiving prayerful encouragement and correction and putting right any gossip or negative criticism in each other. (Matthew 18:15-17; Galatians 6:1-2; Ephesians 4:15; Titus 3:10-11; James 5:19-20)

iv) To encourage the sharing of important personal issues with others, particularly with leaders, confidentially, for prayer and guidance before making a decision. (Proverbs 12:15, 1 Peter 5:5)

v) To share material things with one another, to give at least a tenth of income to God [tithe] and to ensure a fellow member is not left in serious financial need. (Leviticus 7:30, Malachi 3:8—10, Matthew 5:42, 2 Corinthians 8:13—15 9:6—8, l John 3:17)

vi) To encourage the church to become more caring by accepting pastoral responsibility being given to the many rather than the few, so that the church may become a truly loving community and a place where God’s healing power will be operating in obvious ways. (Matthew 4:18, Ephesians4:16)

vii) To base family life and to encourage others to base their family life on the Biblical principles of love, fellowship, submission and discipline, and to see that single and widowed members are included in families.

( Ephesians 5:22-6:4)

viii). To be involved regularly with one of the  fellowship groups organised by the church (Acts 2:42, 46, 47; Hebrews 10:24-5)

11. To support the Church as it “invades the gates of Hell” enabling Christians to recognise and resist the enemy; bringing deliverance to people from bondage to sins weakness, habit and Satan; by evangelism with “signs following”; by giving prophetic messages from the Lord to the world. (Matthew 16:18-19; 28:18-20, Mark 16:17—18, Amos 3:7-8, Ezekiel 3:16-18, Revelation 1:3)

12. To support the church as it stresses the urgency of the church mission to the world in the light of the return of Christ, working with fellowships who share this vision and encouraging other fellowships into the vision (Acts 10:42; 1Timothy 4:1-2;  Hebrews 10:24-25)
